Proverbs 31:4–5 — “It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to take strong drink, lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and pervert the rights of all the afflicted.”
The issue is not merely alcohol; the issue is anything that clouds obedience and weakens responsibility. Numbing may feel like relief, but it steals clarity. Daniel resolved not to defile himself even in Babylon because he knew captivity did not cancel calling. Freedom is not doing whatever we feel. Freedom is having clarity in the Spirit to say no to what clouds us and yes to what God has called us to carry.
